If you’re considering a break away with your significant other, there’s no better destination than the Peak District. Maybe I’m a little biased, but why not come and judge for yourself! Perhaps you’re in search of a romantic break, an outdoorsy getaway or just a peaceful home away from home with someone special. Whatever the reason, we’ve got you covered. Here are some of the very best things to do in the Peak District for couples.
1. Winnats Pass – A great choice for the adventurous types
A great choice for adventurous couples, Winnats Pass offers dramatic landscape and incredible views. Most people choose to drive through the pass, which it has to be said, is stunning. But adventurous couples will love the challenge of hiking the two ridges that surround it. Start in Castleton and walk to the summit of Mam Tor. The views from here are spectacular. And if you fancy an early start, sunrise at Mam Tor is breathtaking.
2. Ladybower Reservoir – a great place for a romantic stroll
Things to do in the Peak District for couples don’t get more peaceful and serene, than a relaxing stroll around Ladybower reservoir. The surrounding countryside of the Derwent Valley, reflected on the water is amazing. Choose to take a relaxing stroll around the reservoir itself or opt for a more challenging hike up onto Bamford Edge – a perfect proposal spot, should you feel in the mood!

3. The Monsal trail – a great choice if you want to head out on the bikes
If you’re a couple who like the outdoors then the traffic-free Monsal trail should be added to your list of things to do in the Peak District. Whether you decide to lace up your walking boots or hire a couple of bikes, this 8.5 mile route is flat and well maintained, making it accessible for all.
As you weave your way through the beautiful Wye Valley you’ll see some of the most impressive limestone dales in the Peak District. The route from Bakewell to Chee Dale, passes close to villages, such as Blackwell Mill, Millers Dale and Cressbrook Dale. Fancy a pit stop? Pick up a coffee and a cake at the cafe at Millers Dale, set in a former railway building at Millers Dale Station.
4. Haddon Hall – an appealing choice for history buffs
For a more sedate afternoon, you’ll love Haddon Hall, a beautiful medieval manor house, in the heart of the Peak District. It is owned by Lord and Lady Edward Manners and has been in the family for 900 years. While you’re there, stroll around the Medieval Park, which is being opened for the first time for guided walks and talks. Why not end your visit in the restaurant – a perfect treat for couples looking for some fine dining or even just a delicious afternoon tea.

Peak Ales Brewery Tour – for those looking to taste some local craft beer
Are you a couple who enjoy craft beer? Then one of the very best things to do in the Peak District for couples has got to be a Peak Ales Brewery Tour or even a Brewery Day Experience. The story of Peak Ales began in 2003, with a young couple’s dream of setting up a microbrewery in the heart of the Peak District. Cunnery Barn on the Chatsworth estate was where it all began and Peak Ales was born. By 2012 the barn was becoming too small and so they moved to a 20 barrel plant in the picturesque village of Ashford-on-the-water. The barn remains as a visitor centre and the start of your brewery tour.
The Peak District is the perfect choice for couples. Whether you’re seeking adventure, peace and tranquility, history and culture or food and drink, you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice for things to do.
